Lay Officers
Session
The Session is comprised of the pastoral staff and twelve ruling elders. A designated
member from the board of Trustees also attends Session meetings, serving as a liaison
between the two boards. The Session is generally moderated by the Senior Pastor. A
mid-year 1996 reorganization of the Session transformed this leadership group from its
long standing traditional five committee structure (Christian Education, Missions,
Outreach, Spiritual Life, and Personnel committees) to a more integrated type of
organization. The most significant change occurred in the Christian Education committee.
This committee was divided into two groups - Adult Ministries and Children/Youth
Ministries. This new structure enables the Elders to better facilitate meeting the needs
of the Congregation.
Board of Trustees
Ten members and the senior pastor comprise the Board of Trustees which develops and
administers the budget of Corona and oversees Corona's physical plant. Faith promises and
other offerings are accounted for by the financial secretary and disbursed by the
treasurer according to the unified budget. As with Session, The Trustees operate in
committees. The committees are:
a) Interior Exterior Committee
b) Finance Committee
c) Information Systems Committee
Board of Deacons
Twelve members of the church and a pastor serve on the Board of Deacons.
The board has a vision to provide loving care to church members and others in Corona's
neighborhood. Special emphasis is placed on calling on elderly, sick, and shut-ins of the
congregation and in arranging transportation for their necessities and in emergencies. The
deacons also administer referrals for special food, clothing, and housing needs and
control a budget for discrete financial assistance where appropriate. The board prepares
the communion elements. The deacons function through four geographic "Deacon
Districts" to more efficiently carry out its vision and increase the opportunity to
build deeper relationships.
